Katherine Shavo will discuss how the SC Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Public Policy Panel supports licensure of dietitians in SC. The SC Dietetics Act and its importance to consumers will be reviewed.  In addition, details of how to report harm and scenarios licensed dietitians will want to know about will be covered. 


  1. Identify the SCAND Public Policy Panel and the role of the Consumer Protection Coordinator within the panel
  2. Describe the process for reporting harm and unauthorized practice  in SC
  3. Share the Academy’s messages related to the importance of Consumer Protection and Licensure

About the speaker

Image result for Katherine ShavoKatherine Shavo became a registered dietitian/nutritionist 1996, and is currently the Consumer Protection Coordinator for SCAND.  She has enjoyed a variety of practice settings in dietetics and most recently managed the senior nutrition program in the SC Lt. Gov. Office on Aging.

Katherine has lived in Columbia, SC since 2011.  Her hometown is Nashville, TN where her love of music developed.  She also enjoys gardening and artistic glassware.
