The Charleston Trident Dietetic Association serves current Academy members in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. This district includes Charleston, Dorchester, Berkeley, Beaufort, Jasper, and Colleton counties. The association meets from August-June and offers several CEU Events, volunteer opportunities, and a journal club. Members must be a paid member of the The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

February 28, 2017: RD’s in the Media - Two of our local dietitians will shared their expertise in the field of nutrition in the media (social and beyond).  Ashley Thomas, MS, RD and Mia Syn, MS, RD  are experts in nutrition instagraming, blogging, food company sponsorship, and even on the news!

March 8, 2017 Policy Day - Together we can make an impact! This year's event will started with a brief review of the legislative process, an introduction to Policy Partners, and updates on nutrition legislation/regulations, followed by a trip to the State House.

National Nutrition Month 2016: MUSC dietetic interns paired with Sodexo chefs to feature different cultural dishes that have influenced the Lowcountry: Moroccan (African), Hispanic, French/Creole, Caribbean, and Lowcountry Traditional. These videos played in the cafeteria each week during March and are available on the MUSC Food and Nutrition YouTube channel

Past Events

March 7th: We had a blast learning to cook Thai food at Southern Season for RDN day!  


March 9th: CTDA hosted Happy Hour at Mercantile and Mash in appreciation of all our amazing RDNs!


February 24 CEU Dinner on Outcomes Research: Measuring the Difference YOU Make! at Ms Roses in West Ashley sponsored by Nestle.

January CEU Event, a "Sharpening Your Sales Skills Workshop" presented by some of our own CTDA members, Holly Sponseller with Pentec, Suzanne Majeski with Tandem Diabetes, and Kati England with OmniPod at the Oyster Point community Amenity Center in Mt Pleasant.



December CEU Dinner: Joan Bardsley MBA, RN, CDE gave a dynamic presentation on Type 2 Diabetes in Children & Adolescents sponsored by Novo Nordisk at Southend Brewery Downtown.

December CEU Bookclub: One of our members, Jennifer Swallow, MS, RDN, LDN published a book and we met to review it with her! 


November CEU dinner at Cannon Green sponsored by Actavis.  Registered dietitian Suzanne Michel presented on pancreatic insufficiency and vitamin deficiencies while RDs enjoyed fantastic food!

Food Day 2015 was a success! We kicked off October 23 with cooking demonstrations at the MUSC Urban Farm and education on the sustainability of crickets as a protein source. The following day, Food Day celebrations continued at the Marion Square Farmers Market where three local celebrities competed in a water challenge game to demonstrate the importance of water conservation.

Book Club on October 15: CTDA members had an enlightening discussion on Eating on the Wild Side - The Missing Link to Optiumum Health by Jo Robinson. 

Kick-off Social at Tavern and Table. A big thank you to Nascobal for sponsoring the event!  We had a great time with almost 60 Charleston-area RDs!

Spring Book Club

CTDA members met to discuss Coffee Is Good for You by Robert J. Davis, PhD at Kudu Coffee House on April 22.

Spring CEU Event 

CTDA members learned about Seafood Sustainability with Chef Ward Morgan from the Culinary Institute of Charleston and Shelly from the Charleston Aquarium.  Our guest speaker will discussed seafood sustainability practices, while the chef taught us how to deliciously prepare our sustainable seafood!

Dietitians and dietetic interns educate 4th and 5th graders on nutrition.  During the month of March these children are "caught" choosing healthy items discussed during the presentation for a class prize. 

January 26 will be our next CEU Event, a "Sharpening Your Sales Skills Workshop" presented by some of our own CTDA members at the Oyster Point community Amenity Center located at 1500 Pearl Tabby Drive in Mt Pleasant. Show up at 6pm for networking with your fellow RDs and the panel will start at 7pm. Evite sent 1/12/16.
