Job Description

Under general supervision, evaluates completed nutrition risk screening tool for new admissions to Harris Psychiatric Hospital (HPH), a 200 bed facility under the agency umbrella of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health. Responsibilities include participation in multidisciplinary team approach to treatment of patients; providing appropriate medical nutrition therapy to patients; effective communication with appropriate staff regarding individualized nutrition services; providing nutrition education to specific patient populations in the hospital and; mentoring student nutrition professionals as they accomplish required competencies in a health care environment. The successful candidate selected will be knowledgeable of behaviors and levels of functioning for the various ages and populations served.

Desired Skills & Experience

Computrition's Nutrition Care Management application proficiency is considered desirable for the successful candidate, but not a requirement. Evidence of active credentials as Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) as well as being licensed in the state of South Carolina as Dietitian/Nutritionist is a requirement.

Nutritionist III - Coastal

Normal Work Schedule: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Monday through Friday)

Coastal Center is a public Immediate Care Facility (ICF) providing a full range of services to approximately 152 individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities. Coastal Center is one of five public ICFs operated by the South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (DDSN). DDSN serves more than 29,000 South Carolinians with intellectual and related disabilities, autism, and spinal cord injuries and/ or head injuries.

The incumbent will assess the nutritional needs of medically at risk clients using anthropometric, biochemical, clinical, dietary, and socio-economic information to develop nutrition care plans. Implements, coordinates and evaluates nutrition care plans with clients, families, and members of the health care provider team. Delivers medical nutrition therapy to clients and families utilizing the nutrition care process. Monitors and evaluates outcomes for nutrition interventions and services. Maintains client records and prepares reports. Participates in quality assurance activities and assists in program planning, policy-making, and the development of standards for nutrition services.

Collaborates with members of the health care team providing technical assistance on nutrition care to health care providers. Assists in the training of dietetic interns. Performs outreach activities to promote nutrition services. Assists in training and in-service education for program staff.

MINIMUM AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

A bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics or community nutrition and experience in a clinical, public health or institutional setting. The applicant must have a current (active) registration from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics.
