POSITION PURPOSE

The Nutrition Services Manager plans, directs and coordinates the activities of the Nutrition Services Department to provide nutritional services to patients as well as employees and guests. The position establishes policies and procedures to provide administrative direction for cafeteria management, food preparation, distribution, service, budgeting, purchasing, sanitation standards, safety practices, staffing and staff development. In addition, the Manager may assist Dietitian with nutrition assessments if qualified. The Nutrition Services Manager creates an environment and culture that enables the hospital to fulfill its mission by providing patient safety and patient-centered treatment.

  • RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
  • Manages Departmental budget as it relates to position.
  • Performs and documents all purchasing, receiving, and inventory control of food and supplies.
  • Maintains proper sanitation, temperature, and food handling techniques to comply with regulations.
  • Determines quality, quantity and portion size of food required and ensures proper handling of food.
  • Defines job duties for nutrition services employees and interviews applicants for employment.
  • Evaluates employees on a regular basis according to prescribed guidelines.
  • Performs any and all duties in the department, as required.
  • Checks routine maintenance and requests work orders, as necessary.
  • Ensures adequate staffing and management of the department's employees.
  • Ensures production for both patient meals and cafeteria line are properly coordinated.
  • Develop cafeteria menu, on an as needed basis.
  • Ensures proper handling of cash/tickets and cash/ticket reports.
  • Coordinates dietetic services with other departments.
  • Purchases food, assists with and assigns duties for special needs or special occasions.
  • Ensures that in-service education meetings are held and courses are completed as required.
  • Ensures maintenance and availability of all regulatory manuals within the Department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Organizes, plans, and manages time effectively to complete assignments.
  • Meets position requirements and performs essential functions.
  • Completes mandatory training and courses required by completion date.
  • Reports questionable situations, concerns, complaints or harassment immediately.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

License or Certification:  CDM or Dietetic Technician registration with Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics if required by State or other regulatory agency; Current member of Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics if required by State or other regulatory agency.

Minimum Qualifications: Graduate of an associate degree program in food service, preferred. Must have thorough knowledge of nutrition and dietetics, administration and operation of hospital food services, and knowledge of all H.A.C.C.P. guidelines, preferred. Three years food service supervisory experience, preferably in healthcare

Organization Description: Vecinos is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization that provides out-patient and mobile clinics with integrated primary and mental healthcare, health education, and case management to uninsured, low-income adults in need of Spanish-language services with a special focus on migrant farmworkers. We offer a positive, supportive, and team-oriented atmosphere. We work in a non-traditional environment with limited resources. Schedules and hours vary throughout the year.

Purpose: Under direct supervision, provides basic nutrition education, counseling, and medical nutrition therapy to clients and their families. Performs a range of administrative functions required to ensure efficient program operation. The ideal candidate is flexible, open to working in a changing environment, can commit to a growing practice, and has the desire to serve uninsured/underserved Latinx populations, specifically agricultural workers.

Job Responsibilities

 Work collaboratively with the clinic team, outreach teams, and other staff to: evaluate, assess, and re-assess client nutrition status; screen clients for nutritional risk; develop medical nutrition therapy plans for individuals; provide counseling or diet instruction.
 Active participation in program design, assessment, and evaluation.
 Create and translate culturally appropriate health and nutrition education materials, recipes, promotional material, visuals, and strategies to address nutrition requirements of clients.
 Review and document patient charts, cases, and encounters.
 Engage in-clinic, through telehealth and online, and in camps via mobile clinic with patients to provide individual and group counseling on the control of diabetes, cholesterol, hypertension, obesity, and other diagnoses.
 Conduct in-home assessments with particular attention and expertise of dietary and nutritional needs; Suggest appropriate behavior modification methods to control and alter eating habits.
 Instruct clients, their families and supports (individually or in groups) on nutritional principles, dietary recommendations, food selection, and preparation.
 Plan for and serve as primary educator for grocery store tours and cooking demonstrations.
 Maintains confidentiality of client medical records to meet HIPPA regulations.
 Supervise and train nutrition program assistant(s) and Nutrition and Dietetic student interns.
 Serve as a resource and educator for health care providers and staff.
 Perform other duties as necessary

Required Qualifications
 Native or near-native English/Spanish fluency. Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Spanish.

 Credentialed as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
 Licensed to practice dietetics in appropriate U.S. state(s).
 Knowledge of the Nutrition Care Process and ability to apply all steps of the process.
 Comprehensive knowledge and application of nutrition services and medical nutrition therapy.

Under limited supervision, is responsible for planning menus, special promotions, providing nutritional
